How can I figure out the amount of parking spaces I will need using shared parking?

Posted on

The model we use to calculate the shared parking demand is a complex spreadsheet which calculates parking demand based on various times of the day, month of the year, the specific amount of each type of use (i.e. office, retail, restaurant), the number of users who take advantage of other modes of transportation (i.e. bus, rail, carpool, etc.), the number of users who are on-site for multiple reasons, and the specific characteristics of a geographic region (i.e. Restaurants in Miami have different peak hours compared to restaurants in Baltimore). A listing of general parking demand ratios for time of day and month of the year can be found in Parking Generation, 3rd ed. which is available through the ITE bookstore (www.ite.org).
